Cornelius J. Prince, 84, of 111010 Parnell, retired farmer and truck gardener, who saw Roseland grow a rural area of farms and truck gardens to a thriving residential and industrial area, died Tuesday, December 6, in Little Company of Mary hospital. Mr. Prince was born in Roseland, February 9, 1871, in the year of the great Chicago Fire. He was a son of Johannes Prince, one of the first settlers in this community, coming here in 1842. Cornelius Prince first was a farmer and then engaged in truck gardening as the city grew up about his place. He had lived in the same location all his life. He was the husband of Nellie, nee Vander Mey; and father of Alyce and Mrs. Bertha Varder Ark. Mr. Prince was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Roseland.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, December 9, from a funeral chapel at 10923 Michigan with the Rev. F. Doezema in charge. Interment was in Mount Greenwood cemetery.
