Betty Jane McGaughey Pettigrew, age 88, passed away Monday evening, September 28, 2009 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. Betty worked as a Librarian at the Wellington Public Library. She retired in 1986.

Betty Jane LeForce was born on December 20, 1920 in Wellington, KS to Walter R. LeForce and Lorena Mae Brinkley. She attended schools in Wellington and graduated with the WHS Class of 1939.

She married LeRoy McGaughey, Jr. on November 6, 1941 in Deer Creek, OK. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1981. She then married Robert Pettigrew on February 17, 1989 in Ponca City, OK. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2006.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Soroptomist Club, Jr. Cosmos Club, and the Mary Sarah Circle at the Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, embroidery work, making quilts, flower gardening and antiquing.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Leroy McGaughey, Jr. and Robert Pettigrew; daughter, Kathy Farrington; and one brother, Roger Walter LeForce.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam Meyer and her husband Fred of McKinney, TX, Janis McDonald and her husband Lynn of Wellington, KS, and Shelley Ables and her husband Ed of Belle Plaine, KS; son-in-law, Warren Farrington of Hoisington, KS; step-son, Dennis Pettigrew and his wife Sandy of Wellington, KS; step-daughter, Janice Lord and her husband Richard "Dick" Lord of Arlington, TX; sister, Maxine Cole and her husband Lawrence of Wellington, KS; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Reverend Brent Clayton will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Wellington Public Library. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
