Pioneer Alaska resident Leonore Vlasta Kurriger, 92, died quietly March 17, 2006, at the Anchorage home built by her late husband, Hermann Kurriger, 62 years ago. A celebration of her life and reception were held at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel.

Mrs. Kurriger was born June 6, 1913, in Salinas, Calif. She moved to Alaska during the 1940s. Mrs. Kurriger formerly worked at the Federal Aviation Administration and had been a homemaker. She loved to cook and entertain friends at home. She lived alone for 32 years after her husband died and learned to drive a car at age 64. For the past 30 years, her constant companions were her many friends and her cats. She loved her home and did some remodeling recently. Mrs. Kurriger was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Legion of Mary and was a lifetime member of Pioneers of Alaska Igloo No. 4.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Castruita, and Beatrice Maule; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
