Sherman Smith Hess, 86, a former Ashton, Idaho resident, died Thursday, April 14th, 1994 at the St. George Care Center.

He was born April 4th, 1908 in Farmington, Utah to Horace Arnold and Mildred Linnie Smith Hess. When he was one year old the family moved to Fremont County, Idaho where he received his schooling, graduated from North Fremont High School in Ashton.

On March 1, 1934 he married June Lansberry in the Logan Utah LDS temple. The Hesses had been married 60 years at the time of his death.

He worked in Idaho as a mechanic and potato farmer most of his life until retiring in 1987. Mr. Hess served on the school board and the Idaho Seed Grower's Association. He was an active member of the LDS Church where he served in many positions, including serving a stake mission. He was an avid inventor.

He leaves his wife June of St. George; children William A. Hess of Sugar City, Virginia Kaye Tolman of Salt Lake City, Janet E. Codling of Washington, Utah, Jessie M. Hadley of Pocatello, Nada J. Kidd of Twin Falls, Gail Ann Clyde of Bountiful, Utah, Bruce Paul Hess of Rigby and David F. Hess of Idaho Falls, a sister, Lucille Craven of San Jose, California. One brother, Daniel S. Hess of Ashton, 35 grandchildren and 25 great children. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister and four grandsons.

Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery.
