Beloved son of Edmond and Elizabeth Kellum. He was the husband of Amanda A. Eubanks Kellum on March 20, 1859. Their children were Louisa Kellum; Benjamin Franklin Kellum; Agnes Kellum Trott; Sarah Kellum; Ossie Kellum. Josiah was a farmer who enlistmented in the Confederacy as a private on 1 Jul 1861 in Onslow County, North Carolina at the age of 25. He served in Company G, 3rd Infantry Regiment North Carolina and was killed 17 Sep 1862 at The Battle of Antietam (also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg,) fought on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Antietam Creek, as part of the Maryland Campaign. This was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Northern soil. It was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with about 23,000 casualties, to inlcude Josiah.
