Samantha "Sammie" Jones, 16, of 712 Piney Woods Drive died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Sammie, a native of LaGrange, was born June 4, 1993, and was the daughter of Mark W. and Cheryl B. Jones. She was a junior at LaGrange Academy and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
A soccer enthusiast at a young age, she was a member of LaGrange Academy girls' soccer team and was named Best Offensive Player 2009. She was also a member of the All Region Soccer Team in 2009. She ended the 2010 season with third place for all time goals scored in a single season with 27, which was within 7 goals of the school's single season record, and 6th place in all time career goals.
She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society and the Beta Club. Sammie, who received Top Honors (3.7 or higher) 2008-2009-2010, was a participant in the Georgia Math League 2010, part of the LaGrange Academy Recycling Initiative and attended the Diverse Power Youth Leadership institute. She had perfect attendance in 2010.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her brother, Connor Alan Jones of LaGrange; grandparents, Nancy V. Bozarth of Ft. Lauderdale , Fla. , and Jesse Samuel and Lelagene W. Jones of LaGrange; three aunts, Linda Bozarth of Ft. Lauderdale, Sue Bozarth of Glendale, Ariz. and Guy and Denise J. Shields of Opelika, Ala.; an uncle, Eugene and Jen Bozarth of Pompano Beach, Fla.; cousins, Melissa Bozarth of Macon, Kelly Bozarth of New York, Kerri Bozarth, Pompano Beach, Joel and Dawn Jones of Alabaster, Ala., Eric and Kimberly Oas of Opelika, Anna Jones of Alabaster, and Peyton and Julie Oas, of Opelika, and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Services will follow at 11:30 with Dr. Doug Decelle officiating.
