James Franklin Blalock was born to parents Winslow Franklin Blalock (1825-1863) and Dovey Beatty. His parents had married in Lincoln County, North Carolina, and moved to Tippah County, Mississippi where he was born. He was the 2nd child of this marriage. He first married Elizabeth Brigman and had 3 daughters: Laura Belle (Murphy) 1874-1954, Theodosia (Carner) 1875-1948 and Dovey (Thomas-Dietrich) 1878-1912. After her death in McClellan County, Texas, he married Nancy (Nannie) Priscilla Tankersley Barnes in 1880 who mothered those 3 daughters and they had a large family of their own. Isaac F 1881-1958, Mae Elsi (Cochrane) 1882- , Bennett B. 1884- , Wesley 1886-1944, Bertie (Ranbo-Richardson ) 1888- , Earl E. 1891-1975, Mary E. (Rowley) 1892- , Alice R. (Hansen) 1894- , Edna (Snell) 1896-1980 and Jessie R. (Duggins) 1898-1987. He died after a day of clearing land on the homestead located in the southern San Joaquin Valley. He came to California around 1890 and with the exception of a year or 2 in Goshen, Lane County, Oregon, around 1900 the family lived and farmed in Kern County, California.
