Born October 6, 1919, in Nacogdoches, she was the daughter of Victoria Garcia and Mitch Cortines. Mrs. Pena was employed by the Mize factory in Nacogdoches for a number of years before moving to San Antonio to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Nacogdoches, Texas.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Maryland Pena of Lufkin, Jim and Ann Pena of San Antonio; sisters, Louise Perry of LaMarque and Ruby King of Nacogdoches. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Steven, Fen-Fen and Jamie; and six great-grandchildren, David, Michael, Mark, Arthur, Keather and Thoren. Mrs. Pena was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Louis Henry Pena.
Active pallbearers will be Nathan Mouton of LaMarque, Steve Cortines of Lufkin, Donald "Pug" King of Nacogdoches, Dale Frost of Kingwood, Bruce Mason of Texas City, Tommy Prado of Saginaw and Steve Penner of Dallas. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Johnson of San Antonio and Anthony Mader of Houston. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday April 14, 2005, with rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Moral Cemetery Association, 8671 state Highway 7 West, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.
