Funeral services for Raus L. Goodman Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Eddie Stark officiating. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. in the Preston Hills Cemetery northwest of Alva. Services are under direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Mr. Goodman was born May 30, 1929, in Alderson, W.Va., to Raus Leon Goodman Sr. and Vivian Campbell Eddy. After suffering a stroke and prolonged days in Mercy Health Center, Raus moved into his Gloryland mansion on May 16.
He grew up in varied West Virginia towns, his father employed with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Following graduation in 1950 from Hillsboro High School, he served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. After his return, he moved to Wichita, Kan., to work for Boeing Company.
At the Beulah Church of the Nazarene, he met Wilma Fay Smith, who had moved there to teach school. They were married on Aug. 31, 1956. Children born to them were two daughters, Carolyn Sue and Shirley Annette, and two sons, Richard Glen and John Keith.
Raus attended Wichita State University. He joined the Church of the Nazarene in 1954 and had served as bus driver, treasurer, choir member, board member, and for a number of years as youth director along with his wife.
He worked for Boeing Company for nine years as a sheet metal mechanic before moving to Oklahoma in 1964 to work for the Federal Correctional Institution until his retirement in 1983. He then worked at the Game Farm, at Porky and Elsie''s meat processing, and the El Reno Bus Barn. He did house remodeling for a number of years.
He was a 15-year co-sponsor of People First. For many years, he and Wilma hosted foreign exchange students. He was a member of Citizen''s Patrol, Kiwanis and Chemical People. He made a number of mission trips to Mexico.
He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Betty Hultz and Roxie Lauth.
Surviving are his brother, Robert Miles Goodman; his loving wife, Wilma; daughters, Carolyn Huitt and husband, Earl, and Shirley Tucker and husband, William (Bill); sons, Richard Glen and wife, Donna, and John Keith; plus granddaughters, Jenna Goodman, Charissa Cephas and Annalise Huitt; and grandsons, James Huitt, David Huitt, Jeremiah Goodman, Joel Goodman, Christopher Cephas, Caleb Cephas and Connor Cephas; a special exchange student, Andi Kabuci; along with a wealth of friends and acquaintances.
