Alvin E. (Ernie) Grimsby Captain USNR, Retired.

Ernie Grimsby passed away on April 15, 2010 at the age of 84 following a bout with pneumonia. After graduating from Ballard High School, he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, and then a BS in Industrial Engineering and MBA from the University of Washington.

Ernie served in WWII with the U.S. Navy and continued in the Naval Reserve where he held a wide variety of commands until his retirement in 1979. He was employed by The Boeing Company for 43 years until he retired in 1989. He held management assignments in most of the major divisions of the company as well as in Corporate Headquarters. His assignments included tours in Wichita, Kansas and Naples, Italy.

He was very active in community affairs. Beginning in 1958, Ernie served in various volunteer positions in the United Cerebral Palsy organization, including National Vice President, Washington State President, and President of the King/Snohomish County organization.

He was also very involved with the USO, serving as Vice President of USO Council of Naples, Italy, and on the Executive Council of USO, Puget Sound. Ernie enjoyed golf and travel.

He was a loving husband and father and highly respected by all that knew him. His warm smile and enthusiasm will truly be missed.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mildred (Dreis) Grimsby, sons Gary (Lynn) Grimsby of Redmond and Scott (Janet) Grimsby of Kirkland, and grandchildren McKenna, Madison, and Cole.

Ernie Grimsby will be honored at the Tahoma National Cemetery with full Military honors in a private ceremony. Remembrances can be made to USO Puget Sound or to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
