Verdys Vestell Hughes, 81, died Monday, January 28, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at Stringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sylvarena Baptist Church with burial in Sylvarena Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Sylvarena Baptist Church for 48 years. She was active in the Quilting Circle at the church.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Hughes. Survivors include: son, Tommie R. Hughes of Hattiesburg; daughter, Lynda Rachelle Hughes of Wesson; sister, Gertrude Hudson of Jackson; and two grandchildren.
