Bessie Lee Smith Barnes, 87, died Friday, May 7, 2010 in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.

She was born in Smyth County to the late Andy Frank and Mamie Cdella Austin Smith

In addition to her parents, her husband, Lawrence Barnes, two grandsons, Aaron Barnes and Justin Barnes Jr., and several brothers and sisters, and her special niece, Linda White, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Orville Barnes of Fredericksburg, Justin Barnes Sr. of Saltville, David Barnes of Marion, Mark Barnes of Marion, and Matthew Barnes of Marion, several siblings including Joe Smith of Marion; grandchildren, Cindy Goble of Chilhowie, Joyce Bolin of Waldorf, Md., Annett Hyder of Fredericksburg, Timothy Barnes of Fredericksburg, Danny Barnes of Fredericksburg, Larry Barnes of Hyattsville, Md., Chad Barnes of Marion, N.C., Sean Barnes of Marion, N.C., and Marcus Barnes of Marion, N.C.; several great-grandchildren; special friends, Grace Overbay, Laura Hensley, and Kay Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Entombment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Rural Retreat. The family received friends Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion was in charge of arrangements.
