According to descendants of John "Jack" Bradford Brinson, he was named for the first Confederate Soldier killed in Florida, Capt. Richard G. Bradford.

Madison, Madison Co,FL census (24 June 1880): "single, age 19 (adopted son) with maternal uncle-in-law, Benj. F. & his 2nd wife Susan M. Webb (Newman) Wardlaw." Now known as the Goza-Smith home.
