Mr. Claude Casey Ward, 79, of Blowing Rock Extended Care, died Friday evening, April 24, 2009, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1929 in Watauga County, a son of the late James Amos and Mary Elizabeth Hicks Ward.
Mr. Ward was a farmer and a member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are his former wife, Sadie Ward of Boone, one daughter, Libby Miller and husband, Fred, of Boone; two sons, James Brad Ward of Boone, and Terry Turbyfill of Sugar Grove; one sister, Corina Woodring and husband, Burl, of Boone; and one brother, Wilborn Ward and wife, Thelma, of Deep Gap; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Treva Ward and Johnny Ray Ward; two grandchildren, Timothy Baldwin and Sandra Ward; one great-grandchild, Bradley Morrison; one sister, Rachel Miller; and one brother, Murphy Ward.
Services were conducted Monday evening at 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Delmar James officiating.
Memorials may be made to the family in care of Libby Miller, 2623 Meat Camp Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.
Graveside services and burial were conducted Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at the Yates Cemetery; officiated by the Rev. Delmar James.
