Bill attended public schools in Lincoln and after the family moved to Utah in 1947, he attended Salt Lake City public schools. He graduated from South High School in 1952 where he played football and was awarded All-State honors. Bill then attended Utah State Agricultural College now known as Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where he played football also.
After one year of college, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in Korea and Taiwan in 1956-1957. Upon returning home to Salt Lake City, he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1996 as an engineer.
Bill married Barbara Shepard in 1966 in Pocatello, Idaho and they established their home at 868 Coatsville Avenue in Sugar House, where they lived until 2009. They moved to an assisted living home in Cottonwood Heights, where he passed away on May 12, 2010.
Bill adopted Susan, Barbara's daughter by previous marriage and they adopted Elizabeth, called her "Beezer" by Bill, an orphan from Korea in 1979.
Bill is survived by Barbara and their two daughters and their husbands Tom Jacobs, Russell Vorapanya, and six grandchildren: Tiffany, Aundrea, Thomas, Paul, Larry, Alston, and one great-grandchild: Olivia.
With Bill's passing the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team lost their most loyal fan. Having been in the shadow of the University of Nebraska Memorial Stadium, Bill could never have turned away from the Cornhuskers. He did, however, adopt the University of Utah football team in later life. Bill will be dearly missed by those who really knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), East Millcreek, UT, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
