From the Middlebury Register, April 16, 1915:
James Haley, a former resident and well known Middlebury man, died at Dannemora, N.Y., where he and his family moved several years ago to reside with their son, Jerry Haley. The remains were brought to Middlebury Wednesday noon and taken to his old home on Seymour street. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church Thursday morning at 9, Rev. Fr. T.J. Leonard officiating. Mr. Haley was a Civil War veteran, having served in Co. E., 14th Vermont volunteers. He was for many years an employee at the freight station of the Rutland railroad here and was well known throughout this section. He was a member of William P. Russel post, No. 89, G.A.R. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Jerry Haley, with whom he lived, and two daughters, Miss Lulu Haley, who lived with her parents, and Mrs. Frances Lamorder of Chicopee Falls, Mass.
