His father was the first to come to America . After their marriage they lived in Wheatfield, Indiana, Pennsylvania , where they had four children. After their move to Strongtown, Pennsylvania , more children were born. While there, they were introduced to the Church in about 1835 , and were baptized. They determined to head west to the Valley. In 1840 they were living in Warsaw, Hancock, Illinois , where they lived for six years. In the spring of 1847 , Thomas and his family started for Utah . They were asked to stay in Iowa to help repair wagons and raise food for the coming saints.

Finally in 1850 , they brought their family to the Valley. In 1853 , they moved to Farmington, Utah , where Thomas ran a saw mill for a time. In the fall they moved again, this time to Bingham Fort in Weber County , and later they lived in Slatersville , west of Ogden .
