John was with the searching party that went to find and recover the bodies of John Armsreong and two others murdered by the Indians on the Juniata River in 1744, one of the outrages which preceded the first French and Indian War.
John was an officer of the Provincial service in 1747-48 and participated in the land grants made by the proprietors to officers for services rendered. He was a private soldier in Capt. William Bell's company during the Revolution, serving in the Jersey campaign of 1776.
