OBITUARY as it appeared in the Memphis Commercial Appeal March 13, 2001: Mr. Jesse James Freels, age 84 died in Methodist Hospital North in Memphis, TN at 6:45 AM, Monday, March 12, 2001. Mr. Freels was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Bell Pittman Freels, his son, Joseph Freels, two grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 14, 2001 with Bro. Eddie Martin and Bro. Phil Lovelace officiating. His body will lie in state from 1:00 PM until service time at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Jimmy Swain, Glen Johnson, Glynn Elrod, Charles Elrod, Jesse Kirkland and Mickey Cannon. Survivors are one son, J. W. Freels of Somerville, TN; six daughters, Edna Forsythe and Alice Elrod, both of Brownsville, TN, Ruby Freels and Dorothy Austin, both of Somerville, TN and Frances Elrod and Barbara Kirkland, both of Whiteville, TN; four brothers, Earl Hazelwood of Bolivar, TN, William Hazelwood, James Hazelwood and Frank Hazelwood, all of Whiteville, TN; two sisters, Virgie Prince of Michigan and Iona Hatch of Bolivar, TN; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren and twenty-four great-great-grandchildren.
