She was born on March 28, 1924, in Red Wing, to Clarence L and Elsie (Adler) Larson. After graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1943, she worked as a secretary at Mr. E.S. Hall of the Red Wing Advertising Company, then as a cashier at Northern States Power Company. She married Burton E. F. Buck of Goodhue in Red Wing on March 27, 1945. For a number of years she worked for Peters Meat Company as a food demonstrator, the Gambles Store and then as a teller at First National Bank, also known as First Northwest and Norwest, now Wells Fargo and St. John's Hospital in Emergency and Outpatient Admittance. Burton died on September 11, 1990. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Through the years she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and Bible school and had belonged to the ELCA church women. She also volunteered in the church kitchen and dining room and was a member of the prayer chain. She also attended Cornerstone Baptist Community Church where she had many lasting friendships. During her lifetime she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 Auxiliary, a pink lady with St. John's Hospital Auxiliary, a helper with Job's Daughters, a member of the Red Wing Elks Lodge #845, where she was active with the Ladies Elks, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and a member of the YMCA for 18 years. She enjoyed dancing, which she had done since her youth, especially ballet and tap dancing, playing cards, enjoyed flowers, singing, boating, fishing, people, laughing and fellowship. She was also very creative with arts and crafts and she enjoyed having her grandchildren at her pool when she lived at her condo. Her family recalls how she was a positive person and always very sincere. She had a zest for life and always enjoyed what she did, whether at home, work or volunteering. After she moved to the Fairview Seminary Home she enjoyed getting to know all the staff.
Survivors include three children, Julie (Robert) Strickland, Susan Kolberg of Hudson, Wis. and Kevin (JoAnn Wood) Buck of Red Wing; eight grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and honorary grandchildren and one sister, Betty Hart of Red Wing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson, Jesse Strickland.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
