In a March 2010 phone conversation with James R. Bland Jr. he discussed the picture on the flyfleaf of Beth's book: The Middleton Family. In that photograph, Ina was seated on the lap of her parents William Nelson Middleton and Ella Eason Middleton. James said it wasn't until he was well into his teens before he asked why it was that only one child was in the photograph - when she had a twin sister at the time (Ida Jeanette Middleton Hartman). The reason was that Ina had a heart condition, and she was scheduled for a medical procedure that her parents feared she wouldn't survive. So they took a photograph of her in the event that she died during the procedure. God being merciful, the child lived to the ripe old age of 95! Look at that photograph, and see the distinctly mirthless looks on those parent's faces.
