Chester ‘Chet' Roy Hanson, 72, was born October 2, 1914 at Yamhill, Oregon, the son of Barney and Nellie (Blanchard) Hanson. Chester spent his early life mostly in Hemlock, Oregon in Tillamook County. He had the same teacher for eight grades at Hemlock School. He then went to Nestucca Union High School for one year and had to quit to go to work.
He worked several jobs around Tillamook and Coos Bay. He moved to Gaston in 1939, where he bought a farm from Bob Tompkins in Patton Valley. At first he milked the cows by hand; later he got electricity and purchased a milking machine.
Chester was married to Freda Frances Callahan on October 10, 1943 at their home in Patton Valley. He had to sell the milk cows when he went to the hospital. Later he bought beef cows and cut wood off his property. Because of poor health, they sold the farm and moved to Forest Grove in 1981. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Gaston.
Mr. Hanson died Saturday, March 1, 1987, at Forest View Care Center. He is survived by his wife Freda; a brother Carl E. Hanson of McMinnville; an aunt Bertha Hardman of Independence, Oregon; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon following the services at Chester and Freda's home, 3117 16th Place, Forest Grove.
