Elizabeth Missouri Merrell was the daughter of Elijah Merrell and Lucinda Elizabeth Cook. She was one of 4 siblings -- the only girl born to Elizabeth an Elijah.

Elizabeth was married first to William Collins in 1877 in Hempstead County, Arksansa. They had one child, Jim Collins, born in 1880. After William's death she was married to Taylor Bishop in about 1882. Two children were born: Ella P., 1883 and Elijah Taylor, 1885. Taylor Bishop died in about 1887 and in 1888, Elizabeth married Jacob Elijah "Jake" Sapaugh in Hempstead County, Arkansas. To them 8 children were born:
