Charles was the oldest son in a family of nine children born to Charles Anson Miller and Clara Lilian Gardner in the Village of Richmond, Richmond County, Quebec.

In 1899, his birthplace gained city status as Windsor Mills. Later, in 1914, it became Windsor. The main industry was and is paper where Scotsman John Thomson, the husband of Charles' aunt, supervised Canada's first commercial production of wood pulp in 1864.

Unlike the gravestone, Charles' actual birthdate was 26 September 1877. Also he died about midnight so the family considers his date of death as 27 July although the official record is 28 July.

About 1912 he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to work as an electrician. There he met and married Laura Godkin, a beautiful young schoolteacher. They had one daughter, Margaret Adelle, who died in 1945 not long after graduating from McGill University.

The Miller family was very close. A relative of Laura Godkin recently shared a large box of family photos we had never seen, sent West from Charlie's sisters over the years.

Sadly Charlie died in 1918 at age 40 from a ruptured appendix.
