Isaac Henry Kanistanaux was born about 7-May-1860 (according to his age at death and his birth date as listed in a 1901 document) in Canada. Census ages suggest he may have been born in 1858 or 1859. The identity of his birth parents is somewhat of a mystery. He was raised by Laton & Mary (Moulton) Kanistanaux at least from the age of 10 and always lived near to them as an adult. He is listed as a son of Laton Kinness (Kanistanaux) on Laton's 1901 Land Claim Application. However, other evidence suggests Laton was in Wisconsin with his first wife and family when Isaac Henry was born, while Mary Moulton was with her first husband and daughter in Quebec.

Isaac Henry Kanistanaux died on the 21st of April, 1920 (and buried on the 24th of April) in the town of Fredonia, Chautauqua Co., New York at the age of 62 years, 11 months, 14 days. His parents names and birth locations are listed as "unknown" on his death certificate. He is identified as French or Indian on the death certificate and as Indian in a number of state and federal census.

His death notice identifies Dr. Lee-o-netto of Allegany as his sister. Other records suggest a second sister, Caroline A. (Kanistanaux) Moulton Horton of Cattarauqus Co., NY. Neither of these ladies are mentioned as children in Laton's 1901 Application mentioned above.

It appears he was known as Henry to his family, but as Isaac to everyone else. Isaac is also the name of Laton's brother, Dr. Isaac J. Kinness / Kanistanaux. The two men are easily confused.

Isaac was married to Sarah Jane Herrick, age 22 of Stockton on the 1st day of January, 1881. Sadly "Jane" died on the 11th of November of that same year.

Isaac married second, Christina, who was born about 1857 in Sweden. She was with him in the 1892 NY State Census at Ellicott. He has not been located in the 1900 Census.

Isaac married third about 1903 to Anna Belle, who was born about 1855 in Canada. She is found with him in the 1905, 1910, and 1915 Census at Pomfret and survived him.

Isaac Henry Kanistanaux has no known direct descendants.
