Paul and Charlene had a trailer at Lake Camanche in Amador County for several years, where they enjoyed camping and fishing. In 1993, after retirement, they decided to build a home in Ione and make it their permanent residence. They loved traveling especially cruising to Alaska, Hawaii and Panama. In 1997 Paul passed away and Charlene decided to move to Rollingwood in Jackson. She loved living there; she had great neighbors and looked forward to their Bunco games and get togethers. She was a member of the Sierra Belles, Native Daughters of the Golden West and volunteered at the Hospice Thrift Store. She loved spending time with her family and when she wasn't busy at a function she could often be found at her favorite slot machine in Tahoe or the Jackson Rancheria.
Charlene is survived by her children, Guy Johnston and Lora Johnston both of Fremont, Leslie Burrows and husband James of San Ramon, Cherie Johnston Waldear and husband William of Pine Grove, Scott Johnston and wife Christina of Pioneer; sister, Betsy Sievers of Ithaca, NY; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband of 45 years, Paul in 1997.
