Bart Earl Metcalf, 70, of Idaho Falls, died March 10, 2010, at his home of natural causes.

Bart was born May 11, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Marvin Earl Metcalf and Eva Bodily Metcalf (Pack). He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1957. He then joined the U. S. Army

He married Loa Mae Westover December 8, 1961, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple

Bart spent 12 years in the military, then worked as a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for 21 years.
He lived in Blackfoot for 36 years and returned to Idaho Falls three years ago to live with his son.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bart enjoyed Idaho history. He took great delight in the special relationship he had with his grandfather, Jesse Metcalf, whom he spent the summers of his youth with on the family farm in Leslie, Idaho.

Bart ran for Mayor of Blackfoot in the early 1990s.

He was very proud of his three oldest grandsons, who chose to serve missions for the LDS church.

12 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Joseph Metcalf and Jesse Metcalf, and two sisters, Glenna Metcalf and Andrea Metcalf.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Shelley LDS Sand Creek Ward, 1101 East 1250 North, with Bishop Ray Hollist officiating. The family will visit with friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

He and his parents lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho and then in 1942 they moved to Logan, Utah, where his father worked at Hill Air Force Base. After a couple of years they moved back to Idaho Falls, and in about 1946 they moved to Leslie, Idaho, and then prior to his sister Trina's birth they moved back to Idaho Falls.

During his school days he attended the following schools in Idaho Falls, Idaho :
Emerson Elementary 1945 - 1951
O. E. Bell Junior High 1951 - 1953
Idaho Falls High School 1953 - 1957

After graduation from Idaho Falls High, my father joined the U.S. Army. in 1958.
It was while on R & R that my father met my mother, on 1 September 1959 in Blackfoot, Bingham, Idaho, on a blind date set up by his friend Doyle L. Staker Sr. and her cousin Cecile Westover.

During his stint in the U.S. Army he served in the following places :

Fort Carson, Colorado
Fort Jackson, South Carolina
Fort Benning, Georgia
Erlangen, Germany
Vashon Island, Washington
Chun Chon, Korea
Fort Sam Houston, Texas
Muenchwieler, West Germany
near Pleiku, Vietnam
Fort Lewis, Washington.
