Dora Diess was born March 23, 1887 near Crow. She was the oldest of six children born to Joseph and Pearl Logan Gates.

On Oct. 16, 1907 Dora married B. F. Diess. They farmed and ranched near Hadleyville, south of Crow and raised four children of their own, as well as having an open door for nieces, nephews, and friends. Much of the produce and meat they raised was sold in the old Eugene Public Market on Park Street. Dora was a homemaker during the days of no modern conveniences and yet found the time beyond normal tasks of home and garden to raise beautiful flowers and even lend a hand with a team of horses.

B. F. (Frank) preceded her in death in 1950. Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers George, Eldon, Delmer, and Arlo Gates; and sister Allie Gates. On Feb. 8, Dora passed away at the home where she spent most of her married life, now the home of Opal McDaniel, at the age of 96. She is survived by her daughter, Opal McDaniel; her sons, Lloyd Diess, Lincoln Diess and Hubert Diess, all of Eugene, eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 11, in Lounsbury-Musgrove Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Willett Jessee of Noti Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in West Lawn memorial Park.
