Son of Lawrence Clay Byrer and Sarah Euston Byrer. Served in the Navy as a pilot. His plane went down in the Atlantic on a training mission near South Bay Fire Island off the coast of Long Island, NY. Two other pilots were involved in the crash and Leonard was the only one recovered. He was a strapping handsome young man, tall with broad shoulders. His Uncle Joe was especially fond of him as he was his first nephew and became a Navy man like his Uncle Joe.
