Born in Dayton, Kentucky to Harold and Grace (McMinn) Dietz, he was a member of New Covenant Community Church. Following a 20 year career in the United States Air Force, he was employed by B.F. Goodrich until his retirement.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary; sons, Gregory S. (Jane) and Douglas W.; daughter, Carol S. (Ken) Burgener; and grandchildren, Jerilyn (Ryan), Megan, Daniel, Joel, Kyle and Erin.
