Born in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Mitchum and Rowena Elizabeth Mitchum.
Mr. Mitchum, a retired carpenter, was a member of Belmont Baptist Church where he was a member of the Fisher Sunday School Class and a church deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildren Crout Terry Mitchum of Columbia; a son, B. A. Mitchum of Columbia; a stepson, Billy Ray Terry, Sr. of Columbia; stepdaughters, Mrs. Marie Steele and Mrs. Christina Spires of Lexington and Mrs. Faye Fulmer of Wagener; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Jackson Lee of Elgin; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Belmont Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Charles G. Pyles and Alvin Bozard. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetary.
Pallbearers will be Sam Dukes, Jim Catoe, Ronald White, James Brooks, Bob Wells and Bill Boulware.
Memorials may be made to Belmont Baptist Church.
