Sophie Stratman, 91, of Holdrege, formerly of Hildreth, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

Memorial services were held Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Revs. Steve and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial was at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Hildreth before the memorial service.

She was born March 30, 1919, in Hildreth to Karl and Marie (Evers) Schurmann.

On April 5, 1940, she married Walter Stratman in Hildreth. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Roger Stratman and his wife, Joan, of Holdrege and Gale Stratman and his wife, Eileen, of Maricopa, Ariz.; daughter, Marjorie Snodgrass of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She grew up in the Hildreth area.

She and Walter lived north of Hildreth for many years, raising livestock and farming.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and cooking for her family and friends. She also loved bingo and cards.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jerry Snodgrass; sisters, Minnie Smith and her husband, Philip, and Wilhimine Schurmann; and brother, Herbert Schurmann and his wife, Bennetta.
