William was the son of Solomon G. and Sarah Ann Cox Burd. He was one of seven, the others being; Isaac Linn, John C., Daniel B., Michael A., Kesiah and Sarah. His mother Sarah Ann Cox Burd died in 1853. His father than married a woman by the name of Mary ( Stitchell we think) William was married to Anna M. Potts Burd and they had Carl Nimrod, he died as an infant, an adopted daughter Ninety, Mary L. and Paul Edgar Burd, Sr.
William was a blacksmith by trade and had a shop on Front Street in Brownsville for many years.
