Sarah was born to Joseph Latimer and Ann Dobbins in Robertson County, TN, the fifth of ten children. On January 17, 1822, at the age of seventeen, she married Richard Freeman Boren, who died only five years later. She and her three children, Mary Ann, Carson D., and Louisa, moved with her parents to Knox County, IL. Sarah's daughter Mary Ann married Arthur Armstron Denny, the fourth son of John Denny, and Sarah married John on September 10, 1848, in Knox Co., IL. They had one child, a daughter, Sarah Loretta. Daughter Louisa later married David Denny, another of John's sons.

In 1851, Sarah, John and Sarah Loretta came across the Plains to Oregon with Arthur Armstrong Denny and several other of John's sons. While Arthur and his family continued on to Washington, Sarah and her family remained in the Sublimity, OR area. John and Sarah later moved on to Seattle, where Sarah died in 1888.
