Lettie was the oldest sister to my grandfather, Jowell Conner, and one of 10 children born to Samuel and Amanda Dobbs Conner. Her first marriage ended in divorce (was abandoned).

Had Been In Poor Health Several Years - Funeral at Knell Service Home Tomorrow

Mrs. Lettie May Lindsey, 75, a resident of Carthage 10 years and mother of Mrs. I. L. McChesney of route 4, died at 12:05 o'clock yesterday afternoon in McCune-Brooks hospital, where she had been a patient since January 7. She had been in failing health several years.

Mrs. Lindsey was born May 28, 1874 in Albany, Texas. She lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma before coming to Missouri. She moved to Carthage from Lockwood, MO. Mrs. Lindsey was the widow of Robert L. Lindsey, a farmer.

Mrs. Lindsey had lived in and near Carthage since November, 1940. She was stricken with paralysis on November 19, 1949, while a patient at the Dodson convalescent home. She was moved on November 25 to the McChesney home. Her condition became more critical and on January 7 was moved to the hospital.

Her son, T. Sgt. R. L. Lindsey, who is with the U.S. Army air force in the Philippines, was here on an emergency furlough in December, to be at the bedside of his mother.

Surviving Mrs. Lindsey are another daughter, Mrs. W. T. Holder of Oklahoma City; three sons, L. A. Lindsey of Carthage, C. C. Lindsey of Baxter Springs, KS. and T. Sgt. R. L. Lindsey, U.S. air force stationed in the Philippines; two brother Joel Conner of Los Angeles, and Ultimus Conner of Oklahoma City, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Knell Service Home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. H. C. Bass, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be in charge.
