Jeanette Ellene Tarver George
Mrs. George, 95, of Blakely, Ga. and more recently Greensboro, Ga., died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Athens Regional Hospital. Mrs. George was born March 22, 1915 in Blakely, Ga. to the late J.B. Tarver and the late Ellene Fryer Tarver. She graduated from high school in Blakely. On April 12, 1936 she married Lloyd Lamar George . She was a member of Blakely First Baptist Church for almost 70 years, at times teaching and being involved in many church activities. For a time she was employed at Boyetts Department Store and for many years she worked at Tarver Hardware and Furniture, representing the company at the furniture mart and keeping its books. As an active member of the Blakely Garden Club she supported its many activities. She loved her flowers and gardening and was often the recipient of the Yard of the Month and other awards.
She is survived by her sons, James David George of Greensboro, Ga. and Lamar Tarver George and wife Barbara of Norcross, Ga.; four grandchildren; Jelene Mercer and husband Woody, Lynne Payne, Lisa Cochran and David George; five great-grandchildren; Meghan Mercer, Jana Payne, Caroline Mercer, Brett Cochran and Kelsy George and a host of friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Charles Edward Tarver and James Bertram Tarver and one sister; Eugenia Tarver Felder.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, Ga. A Funeral Service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blakely First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Sheppard and Dr. Jimmy Long officiating. Interment will follow at the Blakely Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be; David George, Wayne Middleton, Robin Middleton, Arthur Gardner, George Alan Loyed Jr. and George Loyed Sr. , Gerald Bruner, Owen Fussell and Tom Baxley
