Benjamin Lewis Breece (see Biography below)
22 Nov 1830
Cameron, Loudoun Co, VA
22 May 1899
Seattle, King, WA

The Breece family is of Welsh origin and was founded in Philadelphia at the time William Penn established the colony which was named in his honor. Benjamin's father Adam, leaving Pennsylvania, removed to Virginia and later to Ohio in 1836. It was during his stay in Virginia that Benjamin Breece was born in Nov 1830.

Benjamin was one of twelve children and in 1839, with the death of both parents, became an orphan. Accordingly he was bound out to a man of the name of Murray, who by agreement was to give him a horse or one hundred dollars in money when he became of age. Benjamin began farming in Ohio on his own at the age of twenty-two years on a rented track of farmland. In March 1853 he married Martha Randalls, the ninth child of Enoch and Martha Randles. In 1865, the family moved to Effingham couny, Illinois and purchased a tract of land, but later because of a defective land title the entire investment was lost.

In 1882 the family moved to Robertson county, Texas but then after only a few years there went to Lincoln county, New Mexico where he obtained land from the government and engaged in agricultural pursuits.

From New Mexico he came to Brooklyn, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, and made his home with his son, Enoch for a time, then purchased property of his own at 4219 Brooklyn Avenue NE. He died on May, 1899 at the age of sixty-eight years. His widow survived him by 8 years and died in Oct 1907 at seventy-five years of age. In their family were four children: William L., Adam A., and Enoch E.; and Deborah who married Elijah Peebles and remained in Fort Stanton, New Mexico.
