Andrew Lavern Roll, longtime resident of Lenox, died Sunday, Dec 30th, 1973 at the age of 72.
Mr Roll, son of Andrew M and Myrtle Alexander Roll, was born in Red Oak, Iowa, November 7, 1901. He moved to the Lenox area at the age of four, to live with his aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs E C Higgins, after the death of his mother.
He was united in marriage to Vera Tully December 28, 1927. One son, James, was born to this union.
As a young man Mr Roll farmed near Lenox for several years prior to opening an oil business which he operated from 1936 until the end of 1972.
He joined the Christian Church at an early age, later transferring his membership to the United Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and as Financial secretary.
Mr. Roll was active in community affairs as a former member of the town council and Municipal Water and Light Board. He was also a Past Master of Tremont Lodge No. 343 A.F.&A.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt and uncle, his brother Harold and a half-sister Mae Wallin.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, his son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs James Roll of Vienna, Virginia, and two granddaughters, Linda and Laura. A host of friends in the area made throughout his long years as a member of this community, also mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm from the United Presbyterian Church with Rev Wallace Nelson officiating.
Music was furnished by Roberta Lockhart and Gwen Maynes.
Bearers were Marvin Reed, Walter Brokaw, Don Trost, Raymond Trost, Randall Trost and Eldon Jones.
Business houses of Lenox were closed during the services.
Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery.
