Funeral services for Grace B. Welch, 89, of Sulphur, will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Rommel Tolentino officiating. Burial will follow in New Hackberry Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Catholic Hall in Hackberry. A rosary will be held at 7pm on Wednesday. Mrs. Welch passed away on Tuesday, May 11 in Sulphur, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Vernie Robert Welch; her parents, Carl and Maggie Braddock; two brothers, Bill and Monroe Braddock; two sisters, Pauline Hatchell and Julia Watts. Grace had 215 pen pals, nationally and internationally. She was a reporter and writer for 20 years for the Cameron Pilot newspaper. Mrs. Grace was a retired cafeteria employee at Hackberry High School having served 20 years. She was also a lifetime member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Hackberry.
Grace is survived by four daughters, Patricia Kershaw and husband Roland of Houston, TX, Verna Jean Istre of Sulphur, Bobbie Fountain and husband Curtis of Hackberry and Mary "Coot" McInnis of Sulphur; her son, Robert "Bo" Welch and fiancé Phyllis Gauthier of Breaux Bridge, LA; sister Evelyn Rae Clark of Moncks Corner, SC; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Istre Benton, Ruxton Blaise Istre, Michelle McInnis, C. R. Fountain, Caryn Morris, Troy Fountain, Luke McInnis, Brad Welch, Keith Welch, Carly Rae Fountain; seven great grandchildren, Teddy and Eric Morris, Tre' Fountain, Maggie and Emma Benton, and Reed and Grayson Welch; and a host of other family and friends.
