Charles Edward Way was born in Frost Texas to Earl Lee, a home builder & Ione Crystal, a school teacher, on July 10th 1933. He graduated from Frost High School at the age of 16 in 1950. He then attended East Texas State University, where he graduated in 1954 with a BS in agriculture. He was studying to be a forest ranger. After college he joined the United States Army and was stationed in occupied Japan during the Korean War, where he served as a Corporal Technician for anti-aircraft artillery weapons. He was honorably discharged on September 29th 1956 at the age of 23. He moved to Dallas after serving in the armed forces and operated a nightclub called the Esquire's Club on Lovers Lane. This is where he met his wife Alice Ann Boone and they were married shortly after on March 21st 1965. Alice had two children from her previous marriage; Russell Thomas and Julia Renee, ages 4 and 5, whom he adopted. Our Brother Charles Edward Way II was born soon after in October of that year. Then, in 1980, Charles adopted his final child, Rachel Nicole, daughter of Julia Renee. I know I speak for us all when I say that the greatest gift life could have dug out of it's vast pockets to give us, was to call Charles Edward Way ‘daddy'. He worked for Travelers Insurance Company where he retired after 32 years. He then worked for the State of Texas as a Benefit Review Officer for the division of worker's compensation for 10 years. Every year, Charles grew a large garden in the backyard where his agricultural degree and farming background paid off. He liked to bowl and was on a bowling league. He was a good bowler who scored three 300 games. Charles loved sports and was loyal to Dallas' teams. He stuck by the Cowboys, Mavericks and Rangers through the good times as well as the really bad ones. He was hard working and light hearted. He enjoyed music, especially Willie Nelson, as well as family dinners. He liked Sherlock Holmes & Westerns. He loved the State of Texas and his country, but I'm not sure which one he loved more. He also loved his family and life, and he was loved. In fact he was adored by us all. Charles is survived by his wife Alice Anna Boone Way of Dallas; three sons: Russell Thomas Way of Richardson, Charles Edward Way II of Garland, and David Nolan Way; His daughters: Julia Renee Burrus of Nicholasville, KY and Rachel Nicole Way of Garland; Siblings sister Jerolyn and husband Naman Yates of Frost, TX, & brother Robert Earl Way & wife Eileen of Bossier City, LA; Son-in-laws: Edward Burrus and Richard Couillard; Sister-in law Ellen Fox; Six nephews: Thomas Fox, Michael Fox, Country Roger Hooper, K. Alan Yates, Stanley Way & Steven Way; Nieces: Susan Way & Beverly Marshall; Seven grandchildren: Jessica Lynn Carey, Justin Lee Way, Josey Lucas Way, Sean Cunningham, Charles Alexander Burrus, Tylor Ray Burrus and Chelsea Marie Burrus.
