Born on the family farmstead about 2 1/2 miles southeast of Spring Hill, Florence was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Lawrence, Kansas (at least in 1891) and also belonged to the Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill until it was disbanded. She later became a member of the Methodist Church in Spring Hill. She taught school in Miami County in the 1893-94 school year, and again in 1896-97. Florence resided on the family farm for most of her 92 years, until 1965 when she went to live with her daughter in Kansas City, Missouri. Florence died at the Community Hospital in Gardner after breaking hip in November 1967.
