He was the 15-year-old son of Timothy and Sedeneatt Merrill, and died after an operation for appendicitis. He was a good student, a favorite of both teachers and pupils. He was unusually bright, had a cheery disposition, and many friends. He was the third son in the family. His father was in the employ of the Miami Copper co.
