Born January 1, 1938, Shirley was a lifelong resident of Abilene, where she attended public schools. She loved to attend activities at Kirby Park with her husband. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and cooking for her family. She was a member of 14th and Oak Church of Christ. She married Richard Wheless on April 28, 1956. They were together for 54 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by two infant brothers, an infant son, Randall Scott Wheless, her parents, Howard and Della Baker, and her brother, Alton Baker.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Wheless of Abilene; son and his wife, Ronnie and Deedra Sweat of Devol, Oklahoma, son and his partner, Donnie Sweat and Tim Christopher of Dallas, TX, and son and his wife, Richard and Ann Wheless of Abilene; three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Danny Wise, Tammie and Donnie Kimbrough, and Linda and James Miko, all of Abilene; two sisters, Charlene Cavaness of Dallas and Margie Morley of Abilene; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
