Connie graduated from Westport High School, Westport, OR, where her father worked for a railroad. While in high school, she played on the girls basketball team. She attended Oregon State University for two years, majoring in Home Economics. She quit college because she didn't like Home Ec and there weren't many choices for women. Then she worked in the first Fred Meyer store in downtown Portland, OR. After she and Harold were married, she became a homemaker as most wives did during that time period. She loved working in her garden and caring for her flowers. She also enjoying coin collecting with Harold.
