Born in Cross Hill, December 26, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Henry N. and Alice Griffin Carter. She was a graduate of Cross Hill High School. Mrs. Austin was a member of Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church where she formerly taught Sunday School and was a member of the church Choir.
Surviving are a son, Ernest Roy Austin, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Cross Hill; a daughter, Elaine A. Horton and husband, Mac of Blythewood; one granddaughter, Alison Hyder and husband, Andy of Blythewood; and two great-grandchildren, Madelaine and Matthew Hyder.
