Jim's parents were:

William Thom Adam, b. May 07, 1793 in Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland and d. Jan. 05, 1875 in Gilroy, Santa Clara county, CA, &

his second wife, Margaret Main (Thomson) Adam, b. in 1821 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died abt. 1900.

On Feb. 23 (or 25), 1845, William Thom Adam married second, 23 yr. old Margaret Main Thomson, in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

William and Margaret Adam's children were:

1. John Thompson Adam, b. Nov. 1853 in Salt Lake City, UT. and d. 1905 in Imperial, Imperial county, CA. John Adam marr. Mahala Jane Haun.

2. James 'Jim' Robert Adam (twin), b. Jul. 1855 in Santa Cruz county, CA. and d. Jan. 5, 1920 in Monterey County, CA.

3. Agnes Adam (twin), b. Jul. 1855 in Santa Cruz county, CA. and d. 1865 in Pajaro, Santa Cruz, CA. Agnes does appear in the 1860 U. S. census, but is not with her family in the 1870 U. S. census.

Jim never married. He lived for a long time with his mother after his father died, near Jolon, Monterey Co., Ca. His mother is quoted as saying that she got 'real tired of cooking for him'. Eventually, he moved in with his half-brother and nephew, Alexander and Bill.

James was the first Postmaster in the first Post Office of the Gem area. His nephew, William Zimry 'Bill' Adam, carried the mail by horse and cart in 1913. When the creeks were up because of the rain, he went by horseback, thereby still managing to ford them and get the mail through.

At a future time, 1923, the mail was also carried by Bill's son-in-law, Clyde Dayton, who took it to Pleyto, Bryson and Bradley, all of which are in Monterey Co., Ca.

Jim died in 1923.
