GARY R. HELTON GRANITE FALLS – Gary Ray Helton, 67 of Granite Falls, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Lenoir. He was born August 28, 1942 in Catawba County to the late Raymond Augustus Helton and Catherine Harrison Helton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll William Helton and a sister, Martha H. Cantor. Mr. Helton was previously a police officer for Burke County and Catawba County and an avid golfer. He was a United State Air Force veteran and a member of Harvest Baptist Church. He was retired from the Salvation Army. Survivors include his wife Linda Jean Webb Helton of Granite Falls; daughters, Kecia Dawn Hall and husband Todd of China Grove, and Teah Ann Hall and husband Trent of Kannapolis; son Earsel Shawn Helton of Hickory; four grandchildren; one brother, James Howard Helton of Hickory, and a sister, Barbara H. LaPlante of Swannanoa. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2010, 2 p.m. at Harvest Baptist Church on Zion Church Road with the Pastor Mike Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Ed. W. Buchanan Cemetery, Minneapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at Harvest Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Harvest Baptist Church, 3205 Zion Church Rd., Hickory, NC 28602. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Gary Ray Helton.
