Gerhard Frels, 76
Dies Saturday, 23rd
Afflicted 23 Years

Gerhard Frels, aged 76 years, died at the family home in Prairie Valley section last Saturday, January 23rd. Funeral services were held at the Prairie Valley Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. R. Heise officiating. Interment was made in the churchyard cemetery.

Mr. Frels, in his youthful days was one of the industrious farmers of that section of the country and reared an interesting family. Twenty three years ago, due to a cockle burr striking him in his eye, he lost sight of that optic, and later the other eye failed him. He traveled in the darkness of lost vision the remainder of his life.

Lately he has been able to leave home. prior to his affliction, with the assistance of a member of his family he did visit at La Grange and other places, as was of a cheerful mood, his affliction to the contrary. Death relieved him of all suffering and left many, in addition to his immediate family to mourn his demise.

Gerhard had three brothers, Wilhelm, Friedrich and Charles. Their parents died at an early age, leaving them orphans. Their mother's siblings took care of them.

Surviving are his widow and children: Mione Wessels, Monroe and Elgin Frels, as well as 10 grandchildren.

His father is Hinrich George Frels of Oldenburg, Germany and his mother is Johanna Luecke from Hanover, Germany. She came over with her parents and four siblings. They settled in Fayette county, Texas in 1845.

Sincere sympathy is offered to the family relatives.
