CIVIL WAR

He was drafted at Smyrna DE on 30 Sep 1863 to serve three years. He gave his age as 20, his occupation as laborer, and his birthplace as Kent County DE. He was wounded in action at the battle of Oluster FL on 20 Feb 1864 and was sent to the General Hospital in Beaufort SC. He returned to his company on 10 May 1864. An annotation in his record indicates that he was a free person before the war. He mustered out on 10 Nov 1865 in Brownsville TX.

Olustee, Baker County, near Jacksonville, was the site of the largest and only major battle fought in Florida during the war. The famous "Colored Regiments" were among 10,000 troops who fought here.
