He enlisted from Philadelphia on 26 oct 1864 to serve one year as a musician. He gave his age as 20, his occupation as laborer, and his birthplace as Camden DE. Returned to rank on 31 Dec 1864. Transferred from Co I to Co D, date not recorded. He mustered out on 10 Dec 1865 at Brownsville TX. He paid the government $6.00 to keep his rifle.

Olustee, Baker County, near Jacksonville, was the site of the largest and only major battle fought in Florida during the war. The famous "Colored Regiments" were among 10,000 troops who fought here.
